The Bushwick Book Club Seattle has teamed up with the Seattle Jazz Composers Ensemble and Eric Lane Barnes to present original music inspired by The Old Testament.

10 Songwriters have written 10 new songs based on 10 stories form the Bible’s Old Testament. SJCE took these songs and arranged them for a 7-piece band and chamber choir. At the end of March, all this comes together to bring you an evening of song, comedy, and theater, re-imagining stories from one of the oldest, influential, and controversial books we know.

This community project involves the work of over 30 artists and reflects a wide range of music and arts found in Seattle – it is an ambitious project. The goal is to provide audiences with a meaningful, high quality, multidisciplinary experience and an opportunity for artists that normally don’t work together a chance to collaborate.

About seattlejazzcomposersensemble

SJCE was first conceived by co-directors Michael Owcharuk and Nate Omdal in 2007. Their love of large ensemble music instilled a desire to create an infrastructure that provides opportunities for other local composers and musicians to create and perform new large ensemble music. Since then, SJCE has commissioned 15 composers, featured over 30 musicians, produced several large concert events a year, and performed many grassroots concerts; all sustained through community support. SJCE has received support from 4Culture, The Seattle Mayor’s Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs, and has garnered media attention from the Seattle Times, The Stranger, and 94.9fm KUOW. SJCE is an partner artist program of the non-profit fiscal sponsorship and consultation company Shunpike, a 501(c)(3).
